Is your budget tight? Do want to get a point of sale system, but are concerned about costs? Here is our analysis of low cost, cheap, affordable POS systems:
PlexisPOS Features
Plexis contains most of the standar point of sale software features, including inventory management, credit card processing, etc. These may work for very, very small businesses, but they leave alot to be desired.
The user interface seems intuitive enough, but slightly juvenile, when compared to most of the other software providers who have much more business approach to interface design.
There seem to be very few add-on modules, and we were unable to uncover any third party module providers.
Hardware
No hardware is available. Plexis POS makes claims of "the system for do-it-yourselfers", but it is priced for entry level buyers. Hardware is fickle, you need to make sureit is compatible with the software, and the times spent on you installing it yourself could end up costing more than you would spend on a professional solution provider.
Support
Support is the most often overlooked feature for budget buyers. However, when they pick up the phone and get charged $4.99 a minute to speak to a support rep located in India with poor english skills, you can bet they are regretting burning money on the cheap stuff.
Buying a cheap product with poor support will often end up being an expensive purchase. Plexis offers the first 30 days of support for free, but your quality of support will be weak if you are dealing with the solution provider who specializes in full system installs.
Overall Pricing
In the long run, you will save more money and more time buy using an integrated system from a reputable provider. Having on hands tech support to oversee not only the software installation but the also the hardware will always be a money maker.
